The Topnaar Education Fund (The Gava Kids) is a non-profit organization focused on providing education for selected students from the Topnaar people in and around Walvis Bay, Namibia.  We work with leadership from within the Topnaar community to identify children based on need; most are either orphans or are from extremely compromised family situations.

Topnaar children attend JP Brand Primary School, located approximately an hour inland from Walvis Bay.  Due to the remote nature of the site as well as the geographic dispersion of the Topnaars, our students live in dormitories during the school year.  The Topnaar Education Fund focuses on providing support to children who would not otherwise have the financial means to attend school.  At this time we provide the following for students from 1st grade through high school:

  • Tuition, room, and board
  • Uniforms and all required clothing items
  • Full year of school supplies and personal items

Additionally, we are in the process of  installing computer hardware, software, and internet connections at JP Brand Primary.  The Topnaar Education Fund is also contracting  technical support on an ongoing basis; reliability and sustainability are crucial to the long-term viability and value of this program.

Once a student becomes a Gava Kid we feel extremely committed to supporting them throughout their school years.  It is therefore imperative that we have the financial resources to provide this assistance on an ongoing basis.  At $500 (US) per student per year, it doesn’t take much to provide a student with the opportunity of a lifetime.  Every gift makes such a significant impact!  If you have an interest in making a difference in the lives of these young people, please reach us via the information on our Contacts page.  Because we have no overhead costs, every penny of your tax-deductable contribution goes directly to our students.  We would love to hear from you!
